On the seas to discuss role of Indonesia in the FiTI

Seminar FiTI Indonesia

“Transparency is key for Indonesian fisheries”, said Mas Achmad Santosa, Head of Indonesia’s Task Force on the Prevention and Eradication of IUU Fishing in an interview with the FiTI Secretariat in October 2015.

This is why the Indonesian Government sent Dr. Santosa and his team to represent the country at both Advisory Group meetings of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative, he explained.

To discuss the importance of transparency and participation in fisheries for Indonesia, H.E. Susi Pudjiastuti, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, invited Prof. Dr. Peter Eigen and Sven Biermann from the FiTI Secretariat to Indonesia on December 10th-11th.

During this visit, Prof. Dr. Eigen and Mr. Biermann met with H.E. Pudjiastuti in Jakarta. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia also held a seminar with 50-70 participants on the importance of transparency and participation for good governance and on the role of Indonesia in the FiTI.
